ROME – Robert Fico “will survive”: the deputy prime minister of Slovakia, Tomas Taraba, said he was convinced, adding that the head of government injured today in an ambush would no longer be at risk of die. The statements were made in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC. Taraba also criticized some opposition parties, accusing them of having fueled “false narratives” and of having painted Fico “almost like a monster”, proposing comments and theses incompatible with a liberal and democratic dynamic.

The head of the government, hit by multiple gunshots fired by an attacker, has led the executive of Slovakia since 2013. His party is called Smer-Socialna demokracia, it is described as nationalist and oriented to the left and he has repeatedly expressed opposition to military support for Ukraine in an anti-Russian way.
