Regionals, in Liguria Bucci with the parties fills up with ‘positive energy’

Marco Bucci has filled up on "positive energy" surrounded by the affection of the centre-right parties who want him as president of the Liguria Region

GENOA – He was among the first to arrive, he is practically the last to leave, next to his wife, when in the room there are very few activists left to collect the flags and Giovanni Donzelli to chat with some of the staff of Fratelli d’Italia. Marco Bucci has filled up on “positive energy”, as his wife Laura says, tonight at the Magazzini del Cotone, surrounded by the affection of the center-right parties that want him president of the Liguria Region. “We apologize, we are the ones who convinced your husband to do this”, Donzelli says to the first lady. “Thanks for the apology – Laura Sansebastiano accepts with a smile – at this point we hope he wins. It was beautiful tonight, exciting, it pumped me up and gave me a lot of positive energy”, he confesses. In the end she was convinced too, who in the hours immediately following the official announcement of the candidacy of “Bucci”, as she calls him, seemed not to want to talk about it. She was too worried about her husband’s health to think about making him face another electoral campaign.
And, instead, the adrenaline of the competition seems to have done him good even in the battle against the disease: “Immune therapy helps”, confirms the person directly concerned. Who is indeed the protagonist of the evening, but does not speak last as one would have expected. The center-right menu places him in the middle, after the regional coordinators of the parties, before the national leaders: after all, as the banners behind and to the sides of the stage also say, today not only the electoral campaign ends in Liguria, but we are also celebrating two years of the Meloni government.

The party flags are waving, in a room that is crowded with far more than the 750 people that could fit in. In the gallery, among the party flags, there is also an Israeli one waving. In the audience, for a moment, a blur of sweatshirts and red T-shirts rises: they are the beach workers protesting against Bolkstein and who Meloni will briefly meet at the end. People make noise against them and against the journalists who block their view. Then, someone protests because the room has reached maximum capacity and is forced to remain outside, to see nothing and hear little. But there are those who console themselves at the entrance: among the party stalls, the League offers focaccia in exchange for a few holy pictures. At least the aperitif is guaranteed.

BUCCI: LIGURIA DOESN’T GO BACK, VOTE EVEN IF IT RAINS

We have designed a dream for the Region, a project that we have written and spread and we have asked the parties to be with us“, he begins. On the other hand, “those who are thirsty for power, first put together the organizations on their side and then thought about the program”. Today, Bucci says, “let’s make a pact between all of us”, he continues and reiterates that “it would be nice if instead of president I could be called mayor of Liguria. Because we do not command citizens like professional politicians do, but we serve them because they are our priority”.
Bucci reminds the audience that “we are at a crossroads: we know that we want Liguria to be the largest region in the Mediterranean. I ask all of you to be proud of our dream: let’s all roll up our sleeves to make it happen and vote for it. Convince everyone close to you to vote on this side, even if it rains”. Then, he is moved for a moment when he recalls that “I put my face on the line, I wasn’t in the ideal condition to do it, but I think it’s my duty to do what I can for my region”. Again applause. “Stay close to me – he continues – stay close to those who want a region of the future and leave aside those who want decline: Liguria is not going back”.
