ROME – Exhibitions and conferences, walks, river trips, guided tours, shows: there are many initiatives organized throughout Italy by the reclamation and irrigation consortia to promote “the culture of water”. With the patronage of the Ministries of Culture, Environment and Energy Security the National Reclamation and Irrigation Week opens on Saturday 18 May, brought forward this year from bad weather and flooding in the North, while in the South there is a worrying situation of water shortage; theme of the 2024 edition: ‘Water nourishes us and gives life‘.
“It is certainly no coincidence that this year we had planned to give great space to the commitment of the consortium system for the hydraulic management of increasingly fragile territories in the face of extreme weather events. As usual, the eight days of the Week will be characterized by a succession of events along the Peninsula: walks, river descents, exhibitions, conferences, musical and theatrical events, activities for physical well-being; There will be no lack of traditional, great attention to the world of school, from primary school to university, with targeted experiences aimed at gaining knowledge of the territory and the consortium’s activities.

“ITALY NEEDS AN EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE PLAN FOR THE TERRITORY”

Concludes Massimo Gargano, general director of Anbi, present at the prologue of the Week National Land Reclamation and Irrigation Association, organized in Cagliari by the 7 consortium bodies of Sardinia: “With the many initiatives promoted by the land reclamation and irrigation consortia
along the Peninsula, we want promote the culture of water, considering it an integral part of our strategy for adapting to the climate crisis and placing it alongside the other three pillars: efficiency of the water network, new hydraulic infrastructures, constant search for the most effective solutions < strong>Italy needs an extraordinary maintenance plan for the territory: just think that on average dams are worked on every 67 years! We also need a reservoir plan to store water to be used for periods of drought and produce renewable energy. We will also strongly propose this during the Week”.
