NEWS:

RAFAH INVASION. At the last minute there was hope of an agreement, but Israel held back

Everyone expected the worst, even Minister Tajani. But there are already some distinctions: Hamas's approval is not on the agreed proposal

ROME – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said right up until the end that the decision had now been made, within a few hours the tanks and the army would enter Rafah, that he and the his government would not have listened to anything or anyone, that the Palestinians would have done better to re-move quickly, and already 100 thousand Palestinians have sought refuge elsewhere. Everyone expects the worst, even our Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani: “There has been a deterioration in the ceasefire negotiations, today the Israeli government said it will attack Rafah, we must continue to insist on avoiding it even if we cannot be optimistic for the short term. As Italians we want to have good relations with the Israeli government and with the Palestinian National Authority” said Tajani.

THE POSITION OF ISRAEL

In short, by now we were expecting the worst, everyone counting the hours. Instead, at the end what seems to be good news, news of hope. Hamas accepted the truce proposal formulated by Egypt jointly with Israel. This became known thanks to a statement posted by Telegram, in which it is specified that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh informed the Prime Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani and the head of Egyptian intelligence Abbas Kamel “of the movement’s approval of their proposal on the ceasefire agreement.” Haniyeh called the two leaders directly on the phone, announced the Hamas statement on Telegram. Later, a Hamas source also confirmed to Al Jazeera TV that they had given the go-ahead for the ceasefire. Now it’s Israel’s turn, but from the first indiscretions some distinctions are already emerging: Hamas’s approval is not on the agreed proposal.
