Possible illegal conduct in the sale of articles: the Antitrust starts an investigation into Armani and Dior

Some companies belonging to the two groups are under the magnifying glass of the Authority, which allegedly presented untruthful ethical declarations

ROME – The Competition and Market Authority, also following the activity carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Milan which was widely disseminated by the press, has started an investigation into the against some companies of the Armani Group (Giorgio Armani S.p.A. and G.A. Operations S.p.A.) and an investigation against some companies of the Dior Group (Christian Dior Couture S.A., Christian Dior Italia S.r.l. and Manufactures Dior S.r.l.) for possible illicit conduct in the promotion and sale of clothing items and accessories, in violation of the rules of the Consumer Code.

In both cases, the companies may have presented untruthful ethical and social responsibility declarations, in particular regarding working conditions and compliance with legality among their suppliers. Furthermore, the companies would have emphasized craftsmanship and excellence of workmanship. In light of these declarations, to produce some articles and clothing accessories, the companies would have made use of supplies from laboratories and factories that employ workers who would receive inadequate wages. Furthermore, they would operate during working hours beyond legal limits and in insufficient health and safety conditions, in contrast with the levels of production excellence boasted by the companies. Yesterday the Authority’s officials, with the help of the Special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, carried out inspections at the headquarters of the Giorgio Armani S.p.A. companies. and G.A. Operations S.p.A. and also at the headquarters of the Christian Dior Italia S.r.l. company
