DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, MATTARELLA: ITALY NOT IMMUNE
On the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella invites institutions to commit “to an inclusive and respectful society of identities”. For Mattarella “Italy is not immune to episodes of homotransphobia: people discriminated against, crushed by prejudices, which often lead to unacceptable hate speech, verbally and physically attacked. It is not possible to accept resigning oneself to brutality”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also speaks of “unacceptable discrimination and violence, which damage people’s dignity and on which the spotlight must never go off”. Finally, for the President of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontana, “a just society is a society that is based on respect, that repudiates discrimination and that firmly opposes all forms of violence”.
WORK. CGIL REFERENDUM, OVER 200 THOUSAND SIGNATURES COLLECTED
For the four referendums called by the CGIL on dismissals, safety and contracts, more than 200 thousand signatures were collected. The collection, which began symbolically on April 25th, “started very well”, claims secretary Maurizio Landini. The trade unionist underlines that the objective is not only to reach the 500 thousand expected for the consultation but to be able to bring citizens to vote “for a new model of country”. Meanwhile, on May 25, the CGIL, with various associations, will march in the square in Naples to ask for a stop to differentiated autonomy and the premiership. Landini explains that “we want to send a message of unity against policies that increase inequalities”. With respect to the minimum wage, the CGIL considers a law “necessary” to be accompanied by new rules on representation to give legal validity to contracts and cancel pirated ones.
SALVINI: SAVE HOME IN CDM NEXT WEEK, MEANWHILE EXCEPTION ON TRANSPORT STRIKE
The Save-Home decree will be in the Council of Ministers next week. This is the hope of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini. “The objective is to achieve this great work of de-bureaucratisation, freeing Italians’ homes from this bureaucracy starting next week”, says the leader of the League, reiterating that the decree “is not an amnesty”. Meanwhile, today Salvini dedicated himself to injunction by signing an order against the unions who called a rail transport strike between Sunday 19th and Monday 20th May. According to the deputy prime minister, “the strike must not stop an entire country” and observes that “on Sunday, moreover, there is the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Imola, which for Emilia Romagna and for all of Italy means work, tourism”.
G7. MARCEGAGLIA: BUSINESS PACT AND POLICY FOR GROWTH
A pact between businesses and politics within the G7 to strengthen growth. The president of the B7, Emma Marcegaglia, at the intergovernmental forum which brings together the main industrial federations of the G7, underlines that “the priority is the defense of market economies but to do this it is necessary to increase the growth and competitiveness capacity of the countries of the G7 and in particular of Europe compared to the United States”. In tackling climate change, “we will ask – he adds – for technological neutrality and for politics not to decide. We also need less bureaucracy”. Furthermore, “common policies on issues such as raw materials on which there is enormous dependence on China and this is not good”. For Marcegaglia “we need to bring the production back to Italy. But at the same time keep the markets open because Italy is a great exporting country”. In view of the G7, the conclusions of the B7 will be proposed to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
