In this edition we talk about Ilaria Salis leaving prison, the super bonus, the Istat report on poverty

ILARIA SALIS LEAVES FROM PRISON, HOUSE MONITORING IN BUDAPEST< /h3>

Ilaria Salis can leave the Hungarian maximum security prison and go under house arrest in Budapest. The appeal presented by the lawyers of the Italian anti-fascist was accepted by the Hungarian court. “My daughter isn’t out of the well yet, but she’s excited to get out,” says her father Roberto. Salis has been in prison since 11 February 2023 because she was accused of having attacked, with others, three neo-Nazis after the parade of SS nostalgics on the Day of Honour. Salis, candidate for the European elections with Avs, will have the electronic bracelet. “A nightmare ends – say the lawyers – but his battle continues”.

SUPERBONUS. GOVERNMENT PLACES TRUST IN THE DECREE

The government places its trust in the superbonus decree, which landed in the Senate chamber after examination by the Finance Commission. The opposition thunders: “The reasons for this forcing are exclusively political. The majority does not trust Forza Italia”, say the group leaders of Cinquestelle and Pd, Stefano Patuanelli and Francesco Boccia. The reference is to Forza Italia’s opposition to the rule included in the decree, approved in the commission without the votes of the Azzurri, which provides for the retroactivity of the ‘spreading’ of the superbonus. “The majority is in chaos”, attack the opposition. The Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani rejects the accusations: “The approval times are tight – he replies – trust is necessary”. The vote is expected tomorrow morning.

ISTAT REPORT, GROWING POVERTY AND DEMOGRAPHIC DECLINE

Italy is increasingly poorer, with fewer young people and little technology. This is the photograph taken by Istat in its annual report presented today to the Chamber. Absolute poverty affected 9.8% of the population in 2023, up from 8.3% a year earlier. Income from employment has seen its ability to protect against hardship weaken and has been eroded by inflation. Between 2013 and 2023 the purchasing power of wages decreased by 4.5% while in Germany it grew by 5.7%. If we then look to the future, there are just over 10 million young people between 18 and 34 years old, with a loss of over 3 million since 2002. Finally, companies appear to be late in adopting the most complex technologies, only 5% do use of artificial intelligence.

TODAY IS WORLD FAMILY DAY

The family is “the fundamental pillar of society” and for this reason “it must be valued”. The President of the Chamber Lorenzo Fontana asks the government to do more. “Investing in the family – he says on World Day – means investing in building a more equitable and inclusive society”. Pope Francis also asks for more attention. “In this time of uncertainty and famine of hope – he writes on social media – it is necessary to promote a culture of family and life that helps the new generations to appreciate marriage, family life, the beauty of generating and safeguarding human life” .
