Policewoman killed in Bologna, he insists: “Shot fired by mistake”

The former commander who shot and killed the policewoman Sofia Stefani was interrogated this morning for an hour and a half: he says it was an accidental shooting

BOLOGNA – The former commander of the local police of Anzola dell’Emilia (Bologna), Giampiero Gualandi, was heard for almost an hour and a half today in Court, answering questions from the investigating judge Domenico Truppa on the murder of < strong>Sofia Stefani, 33-year-old former security guard, for whom Gualandi is suspected. The judge reserved a decision expected in the mid-late afternoon, both on the validation of the arrest and on the precautionary measures requested by the Prosecutor’s Office. The defense’s thesis was reiterated this morning during the interrogation in the courtroom: it would have been a completely involuntary episode.

Gualandi’s responsibility, as his lawyer Claudio Benenati claims, exists becausethe weapon is his and the shot came from his gun. Buthe left by mistake, apparently perhaps during an argument. The whole thing would have lasted a few minutes. What is being discussed, however, is the intention of firing the shot, which according to the defense was illogical. “We trust that all of this will be ascertained soon. We conducted an interrogation this morning with which we clarified every aspect, now we are waiting for the judge’s decision and the investigations of the investigators”, explains the lawyer, reached by phone after the hearing.
