Marching through the streets of the capital is a varied political community: university students, the Changing Course coordination, Power to the People, USB, Palestinian sympathizers and housing movements. In the square there are several thousand people present. And there are many Palestinian flags.
“We protest for various reasons – one of the movement’s spokespersons explained during the march – against this government totally prone to American policies which continues to send weapons and which compresses freedoms. An executive that has turned the police against the students in Pisa as in Rome. We are not willing to be dragged into a world war. Furthermore, we want to forcefully oppose the alleged reforms of a Government which in doing so increasingly reduces social and economic rights”. There were several banners and signs present: from “Free Palestine” to “Enough military spending, funds for schools, housing and healthcare” and “Italy and its accomplices in the genocide”.

THE ORGANIZERS OF THE PROCESSION AGAINST THE MELONI GOVERNMENT: WE ARE 10 THOUSAND

This is what the organizers of the national demonstration against the Meloni government made known in a note.
“In the square – we read – also Giuliano Granato and Marta Collot, national spokesperson for Potere al Popolo”, according to which “the two demonstrations in Rome of June 1st are something more than two opposing countries

In Piazza del Popolo, with Meloni, the country of banks, big builders and seaside resorts, anti-abortionists, Piantedosi, arms companies, Netanhyahu’s friends and accomplices to the genocide in Palestine. In Piazza Vittorio, the country of Angela who is no longer able to pay the variable mortgage to the bank, of Peppe who wants the billions allocated to be used for the interests of the populations of Calabria and Sicily, of Marica, who has worked for years at a lido, always with a starvation salary and zero days of rest, of Rossella who had an abortion and doesn’t feel guilty and doesn’t want the Inquisition in the clinics, of Lorenzo a student killed alternating between school and work, of Soumaila who works in the fields and fights for a regular contract and a minimum wage of 10 euros an hour, from Giulia who has been taking part in all the demonstrations for Palestine for months and today is in one of the university camps calling for a stop to the Israeli genocide. In Piazza del Popolo Meloni and the ultra-right at the service of a minority of rich and powerful brothers; in Piazza Vittorio those who fight for social and political transformation in the interests of the majority who produce the wealth of our country”. The procession will end in Porta Pia with closing speeches from all the participating organisations.
