BOLOGNA – It is a day of pain and mourning today in front of the gates of Toyota Handling in Bologna, where yesterday a machine exploded causing the death of two workers and injuring 11 others. Many workers of the company, over fifty, are stationed this morning in front of the entrance to the plant in the industrial area of Bargellino. Sad faces, many streaked with tears. Many are hugging and comforting each other. Several bunches of flowers have been placed against the wall next to the gates. “It’s the least I could do,” says a worker who was at work yesterday and heard the roar coming from one of the areas of the plant.

“They were good guys, we need to stay close to their families now”, others say, remembering the two victims, Fabio Tosi and Lorenzo Cubello. They were both from Bologna. Fabio Tosi was 34, Cubello 37 and was about to become a father (the baby will be born in two months). “Safety must be the priority”, added another worker from Toyota Handling, after also leaving flowers as a tribute to the two 30-year-old colleagues who lost their lives yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, the investigations by Carabinieri and Firefighters, who are still at the scene of the accident, continue. The prosecutors have also recently arrived: Morena Plazzi, deputy prosecutor of Bologna, and Francesca Rago, deputy prosecutor and on-duty prosecutor, have in fact arrived at Toyota for an inspection of the factory. The Labor Inspectorate and the Local Health Authority are also on site.
