ROME – In Platja d’Aro they can no longer stand seeing people dressed as penises walking around, mostly drunk boys walking with inflatable dolls. Or worse: naked. Maybe tied with duct tape to the street lamps while friends are already dancing around (yes, it really happened…). The tourist resort on the Spanish Costa Brava – 12,500 inhabitants which becomes 300,000 on summer weekends – is the Spanish capital of stag/hen parties. There are specialized sites that offer all-inclusive packages: accommodation, cruises and strippers. But enough of that: inflatable penis costumes, sex dolls, and other ostentatious manifestations of sexy entertainmenton which the town has built a solid reputation for attraction are prohibited: fines of 300 to 1,500 euros will be imposed.
The new law expressly prohibits people from appearing “on public streets without clothes or only wearing underwear or with clothing or accessories representing human genitals or with dolls or other accessories of a sexual nature”.
“These attitudes have an impact on the coexistence of the community and we must fight them,” said Mayor Maurici Jiménez, adding that if it were up to him, he would ban the celebrations altogether.
