Separating North and South “would cause serious damage to both”. The warning from the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella arrives on the eve of May 1st, during the visit to the workers of two agri-food factories in the province of Cosenza. “The South of Italy – observes the head of state – is part of Europe and is decisive for its future”. A land “rich in excellence”, but also with “large gaps”, such as lower incomes than in the North and “less efficient services”. Mattarella then underlines the need to combat “the scourge of accidents at work”, defining the over one thousand deaths in a year as “an unacceptable tragedy”.
Two years and eight months of imprisonment for the former president of the Chamber Gianfranco Fini. Five for his partner Elisabetta Tulliani and his father Sergio. You are for your brother-in-law Giancarlo Tulliani. This is the ruling of the judges of the Court of Rome in the money laundering trial in the purchase of the house in Monte Carlo. “I leave more serene than you might think after 7 years of trials”, is Fini’s comment. The story dates back to 2008 and concerns a fifty square meter loft in the Principality of Monaco. A property that Countess Anna Maria Colleoni bequeathed to Alleanza Nazionale and which after a few years ended up in the hands of Giancarlo Tulliani, Fini’s brother-in-law.
A delegation of opposition parties filed a popular initiative law on the minimum wage this morning in the Supreme Court. The Pd, 5 Star Movement and the Green Left Alliance relaunched the proposal, which was scuttled a few months ago in Parliament by the majority. “The minimum wage proposal is not dead – said the deputies present – let’s start again with a popular initiative law which says that below 9 euros is not work but exploitation”. “The collection of signatures will start soon”, announces Giuseppe Conte. While Nicola Fratoianni promises that “this battle of civilization to raise the salaries of Italian men and women will continue in the streets”.
The 100 euro bonus for incomes under 28 thousand euros “is a temporary measure, our objective is the tax relief of thirteenth wages”. The clarification comes from Deputy Minister of Economy Maurizio Leo. The bonus will be for single-income or single-parent families and will be paid out through withholding agents at the beginning of 2025. “In this way, in that period, you are able to buy a gift for your child, and ensure that these resources for consumption”, explains Leo.
Matteo Salvini launches Roberto Vannacci’s candidacy. “For the left we are a Luciferian couple”, says the deputy prime minister during the presentation of his book at the temple of Hadrian. “My values overlap with those of the League”, assures the soldier. Salvini talks about Europe and asks voters to choose between war and peace. Meanwhile, Palazzo Chigi has rejected Marco Rizzo’s request to facilitate the collection of signatures to present the Sovereign and Popular Democracy list to the European elections. The reason is the “firm opposition of other minor political groups”, the government says. Who will be on the field, however, is Vittorio Sgarbi: candidate with Fratelli d’Italia. After resigning as undersecretary two months ago, the art critic accepted Giorgia Meloni’s proposal. “It’s not a reward – he says – you need votes and I have them”.
