We talk about the death of Iranian President Raisi, Assange, the memory of the killing of Massimo D'Antona and the European elections

IRANIAN PRESIDENT RAISI HAS DEAD

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is dead. Iranian state TV confirmed that the president’s helicopter, which was reported missing yesterday in a mountainous region about 60 kilometers from Tehran, crashed. The charred remains have been traced. Foreign Minister Abdollahian also died with the president. The funeral will be tomorrow. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei assured that “there will be no disturbances in the administration of the state”. New presidential elections expected to take place within 50 days of the president’s death. “I hope that the future leadership is committed to peace in the region,” observes Giorgia Meloni.

ASSANGE WILL BE ABLE TO APPEAL AGAINST US EXTRADITION

Julian Assange will have the possibility of a new appeal against extradition to the United States: the judges of the High Court of London ruled today. The magistrates considered the arguments of the defense of the journalist co-founder of Wikileaks based on the fear of an unfair trial overseas to be founded. In the US, Assange would be tried for espionage. Seventeen charges against him, linked to the publication of thousands of diplomatic documents by Wikileaks. The journalist, an Australian national, would risk up to 175 years in prison.

KILLING OF MASSIMO D’ANTONA, THE MEMORY 25 YEARS LATER

Massimo D’Antona was killed 25 years ago. A lot has passed since the morning of May 20, 1999 when three gunshots in front of the Sapienza University in Rome hit the labor law professor to death. D’Antona was 51 years old and was an advisor to the then Minister of Labor Antonio Bassolino. After eight years, the life sentences for the exponents of the New Red Brigades Nadia Desdemona Lioce, Roberto Morandi and Marco Mezzasalma become definitive. Today a wreath of flowers was placed in front of the plaque in Via Salaria. The memory is transversal, from union leaders to political forces. The secretary of the CGIL Maurizio Landini underlines that he “strongly feels the legacy” of those who “worked to extend the same protections to all workers”. Luigi Sbarra, leader of the CISL, remembers “a free, reformist intellectual like Ezio Tarantelli and Marco Biagi”. The Minister of Labor underlines that “his teaching is more relevant than ever. We remember him today for his great contribution to the stability of democracy”, concludes Marina Calderone.

EUROPEE, MELONI: “I WOULD LIKE TO SEND THE LEFT TO THE OPPOSITION”< /strong>

“After a year and a half in government I am still Giorgia, a woman of the people”. The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, assures that “no distance has been created between her and the voters”. This is why she returns to ask to give her preference to the European ones by simply writing her name. “I would like to try to do in Europe what we did in Italy – he says – ally parties that are compatible with each other in terms of visions and send the left into opposition”. Meloni also returns to the TV confrontation with Elly Schlein, which was ultimately cancelled. “I’m very sorry – he observes – because in my opinion it was a missed opportunity”.
