In this edition we talk about Pope Francis at the G7, Ilaria Salis and cybermafias

POPE FRANCIS AT THE G7: AI CAN INCREASE INJUSTICE BETWEEN NATIONS
Artificial intelligence is “a fascinating and tremendous tool” that “requires reflection that is commensurate with the situation”. Pope Francis says this in his speech at the G7 in Borgo Egnazia. In front of the leaders of the world, whom he greets one by one, the Pontiff speaks of the “wonders of machines” and asks that decisions “always” remain with human beings or we will be condemned “to a hopeless future”. He then warns leaders, because artificial intelligence “can bring with it a greater injustice between nations”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanks the Holy Father, who is today involved in ten bilateral meetings: “His words are a source of inspiration for each of us”, she underlines.

ILARIA SALIS IS FREE, SHE CAN RETURN TO ITALY
Ilaria Salis is free. The Hungarian police removed her electronic bracelet, releasing her from home detention, where the 39-year-old had been since May 15. The teacher, arrested on 11 February 2023 on charges of having participated in attacks by far-right militants in Budapest, can therefore return to Italy. The leaders of the Greens and the Italian Left Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni celebrate. “Finally! The MEP – they underline – can return to Italy and carry out her new role for which hundreds of thousands of voters have indicated her and will be able to defend the civil and social rights of the weakest together with us”.

GOODBYE PIZZO, THE ‘CYBERMAFIAS’ ARE ON THE METAVERSE
Professional hackers on the payroll, radio-controlled submarines and drones to manage drug and weapons trafficking, use of artificial intelligence. The report presented to the Chamber by the Magna Grecia Foundation warns the institutions about cybermafia. The study explains that, acting in the metaverse and on the dark web, cybermafias use technological innovation and information technology, combining old extortion with online extortion. For the president of the Anti-Mafia commission, Chiara Colosimo, “the fight against cybercrime is a priority and important steps forward have been made by Parliament”. The prosecutor of Naples, Nicola Gratteri, warns that “the mafias change together with society and today mobile phones are more powerful than the computers that allowed the moon landing”. This is why “the thought of limiting wiretaps and going back to the shadowing of the 50s makes me shudder”, he concludes.

EU. SCHLEIN BRINGS THE ELECTED TOGETHER: WE WILL BE DETERMINANT
“The extraordinary result of the European elections gives us a decisive role in the next balance”. The secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein brings together the newly elected MEPs at the Nazarene and observes that “the numbers and composition of our delegation call us to responsibility but also give us strength”. For this reason, the Dem will personally manage “the negotiations, being very clear on the conditions that we will set for the composition of the next European bodies”. Meanwhile, the leader of the Democratic Party invites you to participate in the demonstration decided yesterday with Avs, M5S and more Europe in Rome “against the premiership and the differentiated autonomy of the Meloni Government. We will not allow – she warns – national unity and cohesion to be compromised” .
