ROME – The museums and state archaeological parks will be open for free on June 2nd. “This is a choice through which we want to celebrate the Republic and the values of national cohesion by placing our cultural heritage, one of the distinctive characteristics of Italy, at the center. I strongly wanted to open our museum sites for free on days with a high symbolic value like April 25, June 2 and November 4. It wasn’t like this before and, according to the turnout data recorded in these days, the initiative was appreciated”, declared the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano. “With the vote of 2 June 1946, the first with universal male and female suffrage, Italians chose the Republic. This celebration is the moment in which we celebrate shared values, beyond the different legitimate positions“, concluded the Minister.
This year, June 2nd coincides with #domenicalmuseo, the MiC initiative which allows free entry, every first Sunday of the month, to museums and state archaeological parks. The visits will take place during the usual opening hours, with access by reservation where applicable.
On Sunday 5 May the recorded turnout was 382,775 people.
