BOLOGNA – “Only with economic independence can women defend themselves from abuse, blackmail and violent men“. Noemi chose to talk about women and in particular about women’s salaries, from the stage of the May 1st concert in Rome. “In Italy one in two women does not have a job, in Italy eight out of 10 women who work have a precarious job, poor or part time, 8 thousand euros lower than that of a man”, continued the singer in her speech of denunciation. “In Italy one in five women leaves their job after having a child. Yet they graduate moreand with higher grades. In Italy we continue to say that we have to have more children but nothing is done to make work and motherhood compatible, because not working or earning too little makes women vulnerable. When women turn to anti-violence centres, they risk finding themselves without money, without a job and with a man to support”.
The absence of a job is also related to the risk of not being able to escape from a violent situation. Because a woman alone, without a salary, where does she go? Maybe also having to take care of protecting his children. Noemi says: “Reporting is difficult because women are afraid of poverty and of not being able to guarantee a future for their children. Women’s economic independence is the only way to get out of violent situations and get back to living. For this reason the 1 May May be the day of workers to the end.
