No holidays in the Maldives for Israelis: the Malè government will ban entries. “We stand with Palestine”

The small Indian Ocean state wants to ban Tel Aviv passports in protest against attacks on Gaza. Israel recommends the return of citizens from the islands

RIMINI – “No entry to Israelis”: it reminds us of something terrible, which already happened less than a century ago in Europe. This time the ban comes from the middle of the Indian Ocean, in the islands of the Maldives. The government of Malè, capital of the Republic of the Maldives, one of the most popular destinations in world tourism, has in fact announced its intention to ban entry to citizens in possession of an Israeli passport, a gesture of protest against the military campaign that the Tel Aviv government has been conducting for almost eight months in the Gaza Strip.
This was announced by President Mohamed Muizzu strong> who, in a note released by his office, announced that he had “resolved the ban on Israeli passports” following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, without however specifying when the ban will come into force.

In any case, a committee will be established to supervise the relevant law reform. President Muizzu then added that

The announcements come a few days after a demonstration called by Muizzu himself entitled ‘Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin’, or “Maldivians in solidarity with the Palestinians”, and the strong condemnation of the executive for the Israeli air strike on a refugee camp in Rafah in which 45 civilians died.
The island country in the Indian Ocean, which was a sultanate before becoming a republic, is traditionally Muslim and is part of the Organization of the Islamic Conference .

The announcement by the Malè government led to the reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tel Aviv, which “recommended that Israeli citizens who remain in the country consider leaving , since if for any reason they find themselves in difficulty, it will be difficult for us to provide assistance”.
