New Eahp board elected: Piera Polidori confirmed in the governance of European hospital pharmacy

Arturo Cavaliere (Sifo): "It is a victory for our company, a positioning in the international professional community"

ROME – The Board of EAHP, the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists, was renewed in Valencia (Spain) and Piera Polidori (Director of the Pharmacy Unit AOOR Villa Sofia-Cervello) was reconfirmed within it in Palermo, former vice-president and scientific director of SIFO and current president of the SIFO Board of Auditors, as well as former member of the General Committee of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy). Great satisfaction was expressed by Arturo Cavaliere, SIFO president for this re-election: “The confirmation of Piera Polidori is a victory for our company. We know how much it is today European collaboration between professionals is important, because many issues – from the green hospital to the sharing of experiences on gene and innovative therapies – must necessarily be addressed in the sharing of best practices which have their most natural home within the European Society The presence of Polidori on the EAHP Board is also confirmation of the high value in terms of skills and relationships that the Italian hospital pharmacy is able to interpret also on an international level“.

The election took place within the General Assembly of the EAHP which saw 36 member states discuss important issues of the hospital pharmacist profession such as the recent revision of the pharmaceutical legislation presented to the European Parliament. The new association board elected in Valencia sees the passage of the EAHP presidency to the Serbian Nenad Miljkovich, director of the hospital pharmacy department of the Baniica hospital in Belgrade. The other members of the Board are Despoina Makridaki (president of PFENI, Greek association of the profession) and Ana Lozano (past vice president of SEPH, Spanish society of hospital pharmacists), two figures who in the recent past have also been present at events and courses proposed by SIFO , as well as professionals from France, Norway, England and Croatia.

It was a great satisfaction to be reconfirmed for the third time on the EAHP board and to be able to remain in the governance of this prestigious scientific society – comments Piera Polidori – This reconfirmation will allow me to continue the collaboration with EMA , with whom we recently collaborated for the revision of the Union list of critical medicines, in order to be able to guarantee patients life-saving or important medicines in emergencies in case of shortages”. Polidori reserved a special thought for her colleagues who supported her and for all of SIFO, “which is one of the scientific societies that founded EAHP and which endorsed my candidacy”.

In Valencia the delegation of the Italian Society – which in recent years has intensified its activities within EAHP, as confirmed by the important presence of SIFO members at the recent 2024 Congress, held in Bordeaux, where the number of posters and abstracts presented from the Italian professional community was among the most numerous and qualitatively qualified – it was composed not only of the newly re-elected but also of Maria Ernestina Faggiano (Sifo treasurer) and Carlo Polidori (University of Camerino) who collaborated on many important projects with Polidori and who always carried forward the inspiring principles of the EAHP (the Ten Statements launched in 2014). “As SIFO delegate for EAHP I am very happy with the result obtained – was the concluding comment by Maria Ernestina Faggiano – but above all I am satisfied with the feeling of respect that the European Society has towards Italy. During the At the General Assembly we presented our Country Report, in which we highlighted two national projects, the Trainee’s Aid and the Radiopharmacy Winter School, as qualifying activities. I must confirm that both projects deal with issues in an original way and were perceived as innovative models for the entire profession in Europe”.
