BOLOGNA – A Venetian mountaineer died this morning from a fall on Gran Paradiso, in Valle d’Aosta: according to initial information, the man fell over 300 meters down a slope. When he fell, he was on the summit of the mountain, at an altitude of 4,061 metres. It happened around 9 this morning and the alarm was raised by a group of climbers who were in the area and who saw the accident. The lifeless body, recovered by the Alpine Rescue Service, was taken to Courmayeur. The recognition operations are entrusted to the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza.
The mountaineer who fell, originally from Vicenza, had spent the night with a friend in the Chabod refuge. Having left and arrived at the top of the North Face, to go towards the summit they had to descend for a short distance: precisely in this phase, where one normally lowers oneself with double ropes, the fatal accident occurred.
