Middle East, Blinken in Egypt and Israel after Gantz’s resignation

On the agenda is the possibility of a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip

ROME – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Egypt and Israel today for his eighth mission to the Middle East starting October 7. On the agenda is the possibility of a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip and, at the same time, the commitment to prevent the conflict from spreading to Lebanon. Blinken’s mission, which will also be in Jordan and Qatar in the next few days, follows the resignation of Benny Gantz from the Israeli “war cabinet”. According to the Tel Aviv leader, opponent of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it is necessary to hold elections in the autumn for a government to come into office that has the “trust of the people”.
