Meloni and the role of mother: “I’m in the class chat. Mothers are like veterans at the front”

Giorgia Meloni was Diletta Leotta's special guest for Mother's Day

ROME – Giorgia Meloni was Diletta Leotta’s special guest for Mother’s Day. “The first mother Prime Minister”, Leotta introduces her in the studio of ‘Mamma DILETTAnte’. The Prime Minister spoke about the complicated management of institutional commitments and her role as mother of Geneva (7 years old, ed.): “The dance recital was put on the first day of the G7, it was hell explain to her that I wouldn’t have been there. Sometimes she tells me ‘you’re never there’, my heart turns to peanuts, but you can’t handle the feelings of guilt“. For this reason, the important thing is to carve out precious moments to share with the little one and create mother and daughter traditions which are fundamental aspects in Meloni’s life, just like the ‘yes day’ ritual and bedtime: “I have to be there, it’s our moment. That’s why, if I can, I take it everywhere.”

Becoming a mother is an all-encompassing experience that fills parents with fears (“Since I became a mother I’ve been afraid of dying”, she says), but also with a very powerful force that allows them to become more pragmatic, redefine priorities and understand how to best manage time. The Premier’s mantra for Geneva is: “Work hard on the way to reach the goal“.

Meloni says that she is a mother to all intents and purposes: “I stay in the class chat, I participate when I can, I reply to messages. There is no real solidarity between women, but between mothers yes, supportive mothers are like veterans at the front.” Obviously “there is a person who has been with me since she was born, there is her father, my mother, a lot of friends and mothers from the class”, who help her in managing Ginevra’s day. Because Meloni says: “You have to optimize your time, all wasted time is time taken away from you.”

Any advice to mothers? “When your instinct says so, follow it, you know what is needed. Instinct must always be followed”, concludes Meloni.
