Thus the Prime Minister on the occasion of the ceremony celebrating the centenary of the politician's death at the Chamber of Deputies

ROME – “On 30 May 1924, Giacomo Matteotti delivered his last speech in the Chamber, which would later cost him his life. In that speech , Matteotti defended political freedom, embodied in parliamentary representation and free elections. Today we are here to commemorate a free and courageous man killed by fascist squads for his ideas.Honoring his memory is essential to remember every day, 100 years after that speech, the value of freedom of speech and thought against those who would like to claim the right to establish what is allowed to say and think and what is not, Matteotti’s lesson today more than ever, it reminds us that our democracy is such if it is based on respect for others, on discussion, on freedom, not on violence, oppression, intolerance and hatred for the political opponent”. Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on the occasion of the Ceremony celebrating the centenary of the death of Giacomo Matteotti at the Chamber of Deputies.
