ROME – Several people, including the blogger Michael Stürzenberger, were injured following the attack of a man armed with a knife during a right-wing anti-Islam demonstration in Mannheim, in the south -west of Germany. A video of the ambush, filmed in the market square, with the intervention of the police, the wounding of an officer and then the gunshot fired at the attacker, was was published by local and national newspapers. The newspaper Bild published a portrait of Stürzenberger underlining that the blogger had repeatedly denounced the risks that would arise in Germany from communities of Muslim faith. On some occasions he had also comparedthe Koran to Adolf Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’. Chancellor Olaf Scholz also spoke about the attack in Mannheim. “Violence,” he said, “is absolutely unacceptable in our democracy.”
