ROME – This year he celebrates 10 years of service in the Fanfare of the 4th Mounted Carabinieri Regiment: Briciola is the mascot dog who for the military parade on June 2at the Fori Imperiali will have all the spotlights on it. The little cross-breed was adopted by the Regiment in February 2014 and participates in all the ‘barracks’ activities, greets the soldiers in the morning and will participate in the most important ceremony of the year in front of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella for whom she has already performed acrobatic somersaults in past years. His distinctive trait, in addition to a very sweet little face, is the red cape decorated with the ranks acquired during his ‘career’.
Historically all Cavalry departments have always had a ‘mascot’, ancient prints report the presence of a little dog alongside the Carabinieri. But the first official mascot of the Carabinieri, they say, arrived in Naples, when a street urchin in charge of the stables of the Agnano Hippodrome found a mixed-breed puppy and handed it over to the Band Chief of the 4th Carabinieri Horse Regiment, telling him: “Here , it will bring you luck…”. The puppy was named Trombetta.
