Journalism, Pulitzer Prize awarded to the New York Times for reporting on the Hamas attack on October 7

Trio of awards for the New York Times at the Pulitzer, recognitions also at the Washington Post and the Associated Press

RIMINI – Trip of awards for the New York Times at the Pulitzer, also for the best report on the Hamas attack against Israel on 7 October, The 2024 awards for outstanding American journalism are announced today in New York. Among the fifteen award-winning categories, the journalists of the main newspaper of the Big Apple won for the best international news report, thanks to their coverage of the attack by the radical Palestinian group Hamas on 7 October, but also for the story of the errors of the Israeli intelligence in preventing it, for having followed the Israeli reaction to the bombings in the Gaza Strip and the devastating effects on the civilian population. Also at the New York Times was the award for best investigative journalism to the journalist Hannah Dreier and her investigation into the exploitation of the labor of migrant minors in the United States. Finally, the third “Feature Writing” prize went to Katie Engelhart, contributor to the New York Times, for having recounted the difficulties of a family with an elderly woman suffering from senile dementia.
In the others categories, the Associated Press won a Pulitzer Prize in photography for its coverage of migrants’ journey to the United States through Latin America. For the “Commentary – Opinions” section, the award was given to Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian journalist and activist who collaborates with the Washington Post , who wrote a series of articles during his prison, recounting the consequences of dissent in Vladimir Putin’s Russia. And again, one of the most prestigious awards for public service journalism was awarded to ProPublica, for its report on the Supreme Court which brought to light the relationships between a group of American billionaires, politically very influential, and the judges. Finally, for national news, two prizes were awarded: to the Washington Post for his work on the diffusion of the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in the USA and to Reuters journalists for their investigations into Elon Musk’s auto and aerospace deals.
The Pulitzer Prizes, established by the will of newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer and administered by Columbia University in New York, they not only cover 15 categories of journalism, but also recognize the best work in fields such as books, music and theater.
