It’s raining and hot: the weather for May 16th in Italy

North

Very cloudy skies in all regions with widespread rain, even abundant in northern Piedmont, north-western and central Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. During the morning, intense thunderstorms developed in Liguria, rapidly moving to Emilia-Romagna, lower Lombardy, Veneto and the remaining areas of Lake Garda, with associated gusts of wind and possible local hailstorms. In the evening the phenomena will attenuate in central-southern Piedmont, Liguria and western Emilia-Romagna, where we also expect some clearing.

Centre

Irregularly cloudy skies over Tuscany, Umbria and Marche with light and scattered rain. Local widespread phenomena expected in central-northern Tuscany, where isolated thunderstorms will also be possible. Precipitation will quickly attenuate in the afternoon with subsequent large clearings in the evening; alternation of clear spells and clouds over Sardinia, Lazio and Abruzzo with possible light rains which could wet the internal areas of Abruzzo and the northern Sardinian area but limited to the central hours of the day.

South

In the morning clouds at times compact in the southern internal areas associated with scattered light rain, cloudy skies over the rest of the south and over Sicily. From the afternoon there will be thinning clouds with the sky tending to be cloudy due to the passing of clouds.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures increasing in the south, in Sicily, Abruzzo, Lazio and inland areas of the Marche, stationary in the rest of the country; maximums slightly decreasing in Sardinia and the western Alps, without significant changes in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and upper Lazio, increasing in the rest of Italy.

Moderate from the south with gusts up to strong in Puglia, Ionian areas, Messina and the remaining southern Calabria; gusts from the south-east along the coasts of the upper Adriatic, adjacent areas and Mantua; weak southern over the rest of the country, tending to become western on the larger islands in the evening.
