Italian tourists stranded in ‘paradise’ of Socotra, in Yemen: not when they will be able to return

Misadventure for 15 Venetian tourists, stranded on the island of Socotra, in Yemen. The return flight, which took place weekly, was canceled due to the civil war

BOLOGNA – Stuck on the island of Socotra, in Yemen, due to the civil war that has afflicted the country for ten years. This is what is happening to a group of 15 Italian tourists, mostly from Veneto, who at the moment don’t know how to return to Italy and are stuck on this island. The island of Socotra is famous for being considered a “paradise”: it is in fact also called “the Galapagos of the East” and is home to many species of plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world.

The group of tourists who now don’t know how to return to Italy had left Abu Dhabi with the only weekly flight that until now led to the island. Except that, due to the ongoing civil war, the return flight to the United Arab Emirates (operated by the low-cost airline Air Arabia) was canceled and tourists were advised against moving, in this moment. Repubblica writes that the return could be scheduled for Sunday 5 May, but at the moment there are no certainties. The Farnesina is in contact with the people involved.
