Iranian state TV confirms: President Raisi is dead

Among the victims are the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Hojatul Islam Al Hashem and the commander of the Presidential Protection Unit, Sardar Seyed Mehdi Mousavi

ROME – President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other people who were traveling by helicopter with them near the border with Azerbaijan have died: Iranian state television confirmed it this morning.

The accident occurred yesterday, in the north-west of the country. The ISNA news agency added that the victims included the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Hojatul Islam Al Hashem and the commander of the Presidential Protection Unit, Sardar Seyed Mehdi Mousavi. A provincial governor, some bodyguards and crew members also lost their lives.
