ROME – A dove bringing peace to Bucha, a town in Ukraine that has become a symbol of the ongoing armed conflict with Russia: to draw it, 12 meters by six, in front of the Municipality headquarters, with the blue and yellow of the national flag, it was the artist Manu Invisible.
The initiative was reported and promoted by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Aics) in Kiev, together with the embassy and the Italian Institute of Culture. “Recognizable by his shiny black mask with geometric shapes and black clothing decorated with traces of paint,” he reports in a note, “Manu Invisible has a career that ranges from graffiti to traditional fresco techniques and is known for his urban interventions that combine words of high symbolic value with urban landscapes”. The press release adds: “The artist has created an imposing mural of over 12 meters by 6 meters on a building in front of the Municipality of Bucha entitled “Try-Fly”, a dove that shines with its own light as it takes flight, wrapped in the Ukrainian flag; framing the work are present, in the background, iridescent light refractions that recall the colors of the Italian flag”.
Pietro Pipi, owner of the Aics office in Kiev, underlined that “Bucha was the scene of great horrors”. The manager added: “Here the Italian Cooperation has already intervened by financing various projects to support the population immediately after the Russian occupation; we are proud to have contributed to transforming the walls of this city into canvases that tell stories of rebirth and hope”.
Tomorrow Manu Invisible will participate in the Bucha Italian Culture Day. This is an event organized by the will of the local municipality, reports Aics, which “involves the entire Italian system in Ukraine and various civil society organizations”. The note also states that “a live art performance” by Manu Invisible is planned, accompanied by Ukrainian musicians who will play opera arias and Italian songs.
