MILAN – A group of 60 pigs detained by a private individual in Lacchiarella, in the Milan area and found in critical hygienic-sanitary conditions after reports from some residents, instead of to be recovered were sent to the slaughterhouse following the decision of Ats Milano-Melegnano and the Municipality.
This sad story comes from the investigation of the Vitadacani association and the Network of Free Animal Sanctuaries< /strong>, associations that have decided to report the owner, the mayor Antonella Violi and the local health managers. The animals were discovered a year ago in very serious conditions of mistreatment and total deprivation, without water or food, among them dozens of pregnant sows, forced to drink their own urine due to the chronic lack of water in the troughs >, according to the version offered by animal rights activists. However, the pathological conditions of the pigs did not present any problems, it would only have been a physical recovery dictated by a situation of total poverty. Yet, it was decided to demolish them.

“They were mistreated, hungry and scared animals and for this reason they had to be protected and not killed mercilessly”, explains the president of VitadaCani Sara D’Angelo. “They were not intended for feeding and therefore they were comparable to pets. They were healthy pigs and to save them from mistreatment we had proposed an adoption plan which was not taken into consideration”. However, “the only response from the institutions was the same as last September in Sairano, killing them”. Meanwhile, the The associations’ lawyer Mariacristina Giussani hopes for exemplary punishments: “We trust in justice so that the right of every animal to a dignified existence is recognized and protected and those responsible for the serious events that have occurred are punished”.
