In Bologna an 88-year-old traps a scammer on the balcony and calls the police

Neighbors aged 80 and 67 intervened to help the elderly man and stopped the accomplices

ROME – He attempted to rob him by pretending to have to give“a ‘nuclear shock’ with a mobile phone on the water meter and on the safe”. Unfortunately for him, the intended victim, an 88-year-old gentleman, having worked at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics immediately understood that the ‘technician’ who showed up at his house was a scammer, and after he took him to the balcony, where the meter is located, locked him out and called the Carabinieri. And when two accomplices, attracted by the screams of their ‘partner’, entered the house to try to free him, they were hindered by the 88-year-old and two neighbors, who forced them to escape.

In the end, the Carabinieri of the mobile radio operations unit of the San Lazzaro di Savena Company, in the Bologna area, reported the fake technician, a 55-year-old Italian resident in the province of Turin and with a police record, for attempted aggravated fraud in competition. The man, as the military reconstructs, “had called the intercom at the house of the elderly man, who was in his home with his 80-year-old wife, qualifying himself as a technician in charge of carrying out a check on the meter”. The 88-year-old let him in, but soon realized he was dealing with a scammer and therefore trapped him on the balcony.

At that point the 55-year-old “started shouting to attract the attention of his friends, a man and a woman aged between 40 and 50 who were on the street”. The two entered the house of the elderly man, who had left the door open, and attempted to free their friend, but they were prevented by the 88-year-old and his two neighbors, an 80-year-old and a 67-year-old attracted from the screams. The two accomplices snatched a bunch of keys from the elderly man’s hands, but they were unable to free their friend and fled. In the end the 55-year-old was freed by the Carabinieri, who obviously reported him, while the two accomplices who managed to escape were reported for attempted aggravated fraud in competition and improper robbery in competition. The 88-year-old and his wife were finally visited by the 118 health workers to rule out any physical complications caused by what happened.
