ROME – The Fiamme Gialle of Ancona and the officials of the local Customs and Monopolies Agency carried out a maxi seizure, unprecedented in the Doric Port, averting a serious and immediate threat to the health of potential consumers. During checks carried out on an articulated lorry disembarked from a motor ship coming from Greece, a well-concealed load was discovered consisting of ahuge quantity of medicines of Indian origin, all without the authorizations and certifications necessary for their import and distribution in Italy.
The shipment included over2,100,000 doses of irregular drugs, including as many as 1,700,000 containing the active ingredients Sildenafil, Tadalafil and Vardenafil, used forerectile dysfunction .
In order to evade controls, the documentation provided for transport falsely and deceptively indicated that the goods consisted of cosmetics sent by a Greek company, unaware of the transport. However, further investigations revealed that 12 pallets transported on the vehicle, weighing 7 tons, instead contained a vast range of medicines, bearing well-known brands such as Kamagra, Cobra, Careforce, Sexforce, Vilitra strong>, in various formats, i.e. gels, tablets, sweets, effervescent tablets, completely without the necessary authorizations issued by the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa).
In addition to drugs for sexual enhancement, over400,000 doses of medicines containing Gonadotropin, i.e. hormones to promote pregnancy, often also used in the world of bodybuilders, were found. to increase muscle mass, and Preanailin, an antiepileptic drug, often used to enhance the effects of drugs.
The discovery of this large quantity of drugs, not legally salable on the national territory and the largest ever recorded in Italy for this category, led to their immediate seizure and the complaint of the driver of the vehicle to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ancona.
The large volume of drugs discovered could have generated profits in the clandestine market amounting to approximately20 million euros, withvery serious health risks strong> of potential consumers, as pharmaceutical products absolutely lack certifications and authorizations from the competent national health authorities. These particular categories of drugs, if not subjected to rigorous controls and approvals by the competent health authorities, may contain harmful ingredients or be produced in unhygienic conditions, putting the health and safety of consumers at serious risk >.
Consumers are therefore invited to pay extreme attention when purchasing medicines online or from unauthorized sources and to always consult a doctor before taking any type of medicine.
