BOLOGNA – After 15 months spent in a maximum security prison in Budapest, Ilaria Salis was today placed under house arrest. The 39-year-old from Milan, who works as a teacher in an elementary school, was arrested on February 11, 2023. She is accused of having attacked, together with other anti-fascist activists, two far-right militants: the episode, of which Salis claims to be innocent, occurred on the day of a large anti-fascist demonstration in Hungary, in which Salis had decided to participate. There is a video and some images of the beating, but the activists are all covered with balaclavas and Ilaria Salis has always said she did not participate. Today, after having paid a bail of 40 thousand euros, she left Gyorskocsi Ucta prison to go under house arrest: she still remains detained, in precautionary custody, but will stay in accommodation wearing an electronic bracelet. Meanwhile, the trial will continue before the Budapest court to establish whether he is guilty.
The woman, who was not transferred to Italy despite the many appeals from her father Roberto Salis and the centre-left, is a candidate for the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra for the European elections as leaders in the North West.
