NEWS:

Ilaria Salis did it, she is an MEP

Ilaria Salis was elected with Avs and is now a member of the European Parliament. For Ilaria Cucchi, voting for her was "a civic duty" and this was a victory, stage after stage, in the direction of rights

ROME – Ilaria Salis has been elected: now the 39-year-old primary school teacher, still detained in Budapest on charges of assaulting neo-fascist militants, is an MEP for Avs. Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni will certainly talk about it in the conference that will be held in the morning, in which Roberto Salis, Ilaria’s father, will also participate. The news, however, began to circulate last night shortly after midnight. This is the post by Ilaria Cucchi, Avs senator: “Ilaria Salis did it. Voting, in addition to being a right, is also a civic duty. In this case, it was also a choice of civility. With the today’s vote, Ilaria takes one step further towards the rule of lawwith her, we all do it. I want to thank Ilaria’s family and father, Roberto, the Ilaria Salis Committee, the colleagues of AvS. The commitment of these months, the choice to nominate her, the electoral campaign were alldecisive stages of a truly collective battle for our rights. A battle that only together we could and must win. Long live anti-fascist Italy and Europe”.

“INSTRUMENTAL CANDIDATURES? WE DID WELL”

Also Fratoianni, leader of Avs, had already commented on the news during the night, in this way: “They accused us of instrumental candidacies, we can say that we did well: Ilaria Salis from tonight is a ‘MEP. It’s an important result.”
