ROME – Morgan Spurlock, the director of the Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Super Size Me’, has died at the age of 53. He was suffering from cancer. Spurlock “passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 23, 2024 in New York from complications related to cancer,” his family announced. “It was a sad day as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan. Morgan gave so much through his art, his ideas and his generosity. The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man >. I’m so proud to have worked together with him,” said his brother Craig.

To make ‘Super size me’, the documentary maker ate only food from the well-known McDonald’s chain for a month, with the aim of showing the (deleterious) effects of a diet based on fast food -food. The success of the documentary was above all cultural, so much so that McDonald’s itself withdrew the ‘super size’ menu.
