Giovanni Toti remains under house arrest, the investigating judge says ‘no’. For prosecutors there is a risk of evidence pollution

The release request presented by the defense was rejected: Toti will remain under house arrest in the province of La Spezia. The Prosecutor's Office had given a negative opinion due to the risk of tampering with the evidence

GENOA – The investigating judge Paola Faggioni of the Court of Genoa has rejected the request for revocation of house arrest for Giovanni Toti, presented by the lawyer of the suspended president of the Liguria Region, Stefano Savi. The magistrate also said no to a possible remodulation of the precautionary measure.

Toti, therefore, will remain under house arrest in his residence in Ameglia, in the province of La Spezia, where he has been since 7 May.

THE PROSECUTOR HAD GIVEN CONTRARY OPINION

In recent days it had already emerged that the Prosecutor’s Office had filed a non-binding opinion against the easing of precautionary measures against Toti due to the risk of a possible contamination of the evidence in a phase of the investigations considered crucial.
