Gaza, Doctors Without Borders writes to Meloni: “A humanitarian initiative from Italy is needed”
Through a letter the organization asks the Italian government to promote a concrete idea by recalling the European and G7 leaders around 5 objectives
ROME – To ask for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a humanitarian initiative from Italy, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) writes a letter to President Meloni signed by 18 workers and Italian humanitarian workers, doctors, nurses, psychologists, logisticians, who since the brutal attack by Hamas on 7 October have worked in the hell of Gaza or supported our action from the West Bank or Egypt.
“The bombings Israelis have affected the population beyond measure. In Gaza, everything is missing: water, food, space, care. The healthcare system is collapsing and the disproportion between human needs and the ability to intervene is enormous. We live under attack, in the total annihilation of every rule of conduct of hostilities, while the hostages are still painfully far from their loved ones” write the MSF workers in the letter to the government.
MSF asks the Italian government to promote a concrete and ambitious humanitarian initiative, recalling European and G7 leaders around 5 objectives:
< /p>
- Achieve an immediate and prolonged ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
- Ensure the protection of civilians, interrupting all forms of support, including the sending of weapons, to military operations and the siege of Gaza and demanding full respect for international humanitarian law.
- Ensure humanitarian assistance to the population, guaranteeing support and safe and unconditional access to necessary aid, including medical and food supplies to address the risk of famine.
- Put an end to attacks on hospitals and healthcare facilities, which affect patients and medical staff and put the entire population at risk.
- Facilitate medical evacuations of wounded and patients requiring complex care not available in Gaza, without jeopardizing their right of return.
“President Meloni, we trust in your leadership on each of these 5 objectives, because every concrete result will translate into lives saved and suffering spared”, is the appeal of MSF which once again requests the availability of the Italian Government for a meeting, requested several times, to discuss the contents proposed in the letter.
