From Vinicio Capossela to Patti Smith and Carmen Consoli, Ostia antica Festival arrives from 17 July
Among the first artists announced also Goran Bregovic and Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza
Vinicio Capossela and Goran Bregovic, Patti Smith and Carmen Consoli, Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza. Here are the six artists with which Ostia Antica Festival presents itself and announces some names of its first billboard signed by the newly founded Rti Teatro Romano Ostia Antica. A first taste of a broader and more transversal program that includesmusic, dance, prose and stand up comedy.
The extraordinary stage of the Roman Theater of Ostia Antica returns to come alive with art and notes, a history more than two thousand years long that continues to live in a constant dialogue between past and present, archeology and contemporaneity.
THE PROGRAM
It starts on July 17th with the Tenco Vinicio Capossela prize and his ‘Ancient keys. From income. The fall of the empire and other collapses, a title taken from the work by Rutilio Namaziano, set in the midst of the decline of the Western Roman Empire. A unique concert that aims to try to make current urgencies resonate together with those that have always suffocated peaceful human coexistence. A repertoire that originates from the album ‘Ovunque proteggi’, which Capossela brought live in an unforgettable live show right here in Ostia Antica in 2006, to which will be added part of ‘Camera a sud’, on the anniversary of its thirtieth anniversary.
On July 22nd the energy of Goran Bregovic, Bosnian composer and internationally renowned musician, will overwhelm the public with his Orchestra for Weddings and Funerals. For years the idol of Yugoslav youth, Bregovic brings to the stage a whirlwind show that mixes the sounds of a gypsy fanfare with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, electric guitar and traditional percussion with rock accents, for a rhythm which is impossible to resist.
On September 3, the priestess of rock Patti Smith will take the stage with ‘Pasolini and the sea’. A profound love binds the singer-songwriter, poet, photographer and painter to Pier Paolo Pasolini who, right in Ostia, was brutally murdered on the night of 2 November 1975. In one of the most evocative scenarios, capable of maintaining the original charm of times gone by, here resounds the voice of a modern icon like Patti Smith, whose inflexibly coherent hallmark has become the indelible trait of her artistic expression that has made her among the most influential artists of all time.
On 6 September it is the turn of Amistade, the multimedia work by Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza, co-produced by the Teatro di Sardegna, which makes use of new technologies, videomapping and projections. Sound fragments tell of concerts and thoughts of Fabrizio De André, which alternate and blend with the concepts, voice and body of Antonio Rezza on stage with Ivan Bellavista. A work of contamination between the poetics of Fabrizio De André and that of Fratto_X, which tackles plagiarism through a disruptive narrative, where absence creates a spectacle and the body wrapped in luminous trails creates anthropomorphic figures.
Carmen Consoli arrives on September 7th, with ‘Terra ca nun senti’. The concert-event with which the singer paid homage to the Sicilian musical tradition last year at the Greek Theater in Syracuse is now a world tour starting from New York on May 22nd. After San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami, and again Canada (Montreal) and Spain (at the prestigious La Mar de Músicas Festival in Cartagena), here she is at Ostia Antica Festival. In the setlist his most beloved hits meet traditional Sicilian songs, as well as songs by wonderful artists such as Franco Battiato and Rosa Balistreri. A personal narration in notes of Sicily with its landscapes, its stories and its characters.
