From track to swimming, from Rome to Belgrade: golden Italy. Paltrinieri dominates the 10 km at the European Championships

After Tamberi, here's Paltrinieri: it's a continuous celebration. Italian double also in the women's event

ROME – Italy has not yet abandoned the Roman festival for the European Athletics Championships, and the Tamberi show, which is raining down more gold. The name is another big name in Italian sport: Gregorio Paltrinieri dominates the 10 km at the European swimming championships, and on the inaugural day of the cross-country race he finished in 1h49’12” leaving behind the silver world champion Marc-Antoine Olivier, and the world champion in Doha Kristof Rasovszky. Fourth place for Domenico Acerenza, solid squire, fifth for Dario Verani.

The women, over the same distance, bring home a double: in the waters of the Ada Ciganlija it is Leonie Beck who triumphs ahead of Barbara Pozzobon, silver, and Giulia Gabbrielleschi, bronze. The German confirmed herself as European champion, with an amazing sprint over Pozzobon, second just 0.1 seconds behind. Veronica Santoni, the third Italian in the race, finished in 16th place.
