MIGRANTS. GREECE, CHARGES DISMISSED FOR THE ‘ADRIANA’ SHIPWRECK

No one was to blame for the shipwreck of the Adriana, the fishing vessel that sank in the Aegean Sea on 14 June with hundreds of migrants on board. A Greek court has in fact dismissed the charges against nine defendants, Egyptian citizens who survived the events, who risked life imprisonment. The judges declared themselves not competent because the shipwreck occurred in international waters. The responsibilities of the Greek Coast Guard remain to be clarified, which according to some reconstructions caused the capsizing of the Adriana with its intervention.

ASSANGE. LONDON COURT GRANTS APPEAL AGAINST US EXTRADITION

The United States should withdraw the charges against Julian Assange and allow the founder of Wikileaks to return to freedom: this is the appeal that comes from Rome, after the decision of the High Court of London to still allow the journalist to appeal against the risk of extradition to America. Accused of espionage, Assange risks a sentence of 175 years in prison. Riccardo Noury, spokesperson for the organization Amnesty International Italy: “Here there is only one thing to demand; if the Biden administration wants to be remembered for what it has done for press freedom, it must cancel the accusations, it must cancel the extradition warrant and leave Assange alone”.

And the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation announces the opening of two offices: in Uganda and in Ivory Coast, the country where the African Development Bank is based.
