G7, PADRE BENANTI: “IA DOES NOT MULTIPLY INEQUALITIES BETWEEN COUNTRIES

Artificial intelligence is “a multiplier” and there is therefore the risk that it “also multiplies inequalities between countries”: this is the warning of Father Paolo Benanti, Franciscan theologian, advisor to Pope Francis, the only Italian among the 39 experts of the United Nations AI Advisory Board. The topic is on the table of the heads of state and government of the G7, at the summit in Borgo Egnazia, in Puglia, at which the Pope will also speak. According to Father Benanti, “the governance of AI is connected to the ‘building capacity’ of the South global”. It is therefore a question, the theologian underlines, “of defining the rules necessary for the diffusion of new technologies”.

EUROPEE, ARGENTINIAN PRESIDENT MILEI: “NEW RIGHT ADVANCES, GREAT

“Huge advance of the new right parties in Europe” and, again, “great news from the Old Continent”: this is the comment on the elections in the EU countries by the president of Argentina, Javier Milei. According to the head of state, “the West must take back the flags that have made it a civilizing and prosperous force throughout history”. Milei therefore listed: “Defense of life, liberty and individual property”. His message also included a criticism of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, defined as “inhuman” and “designed by bureaucrats for bureaucrats”.

ETHIOPIA, AXUM, THREE YEARS SINCE CIVIL CONFLICT REOPENS THE AIRPORT

After more than three years, Axum airport, a UNESCO world heritage archaeological site in Tigray, a region of Ethiopia hit by civil conflict since 2020, has resumed operations. The airport had been damaged during clashes between soldiers of the federal army and fighters of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). The parties then reached a peace agreement in 2022. The kingdom of Axum was a powerful state between the 1st and 13th centuries AD. Among the wonders of the site are monolithic obelisks, giant stelae, royal tombs and castles.
