Fontana rewards Yleniam Mellaro, mother ‘courage’ of twins despite a heart problem since birth

Despite a heart problem since birth (she only has half of it, she is missing a ventricle), Ylenia Massaro did not give up on the uphill path to having children and is now the mother of twins: today she was awarded in the Chamber by President Lorenzo Fontana

ROME – She has a half heart, that is, without a right ventricle since birth, and today she is the mother of twins. Ylenia Mellaro, 36 years old, Roman, was received and awarded today by the President of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontana, in view of Mother’s Day. Due to a congenital heart disease, she was forced to undergo surgery to build an alternative circulation system. Thanks to the specialists at the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital and the Gemelli University Polyclinic in Rome, in October she became the mother of twins, Claudio and Giulia, born weighing 1.4 kg and in excellent health. Today he received the recognition in the Chamber of Deputies.

“Mother’s Day has a universal value. We wanted to celebrate it witha courageous mother and a beautiful family, to whom I send my best wishes, thanks and congratulations. May this be the celebration of all mothers. Remembering this, in these difficult times, especially due to strong international tensions, is a message that gives hope”, said Fontana upon receiving Ylenia Mellaro in his studio, accompanied by her husband Federico D’Alessandro and their children. “I’m very excited. It was a great achievement. We hope that those who, like us, want to become parents will be able to do so.
