ROME – The Miami police have opened an internal investigation into the Matteo Falcinelli affair and the US State Department has undertaken to monitor the case: the Minister of Foreign Affairs said this today in the Senate Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. According to the manager, the communications came from a spokesperson for the State Department. Tajani called American insurance “an important development”.

“THE FAMILY THANKED THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT”

Tajani reported that Matteo Falcinelli’s mother, Vlasta Studenicova, thanked the government, the Foreign Minister and the Italian consulate in the United States “for what they did for her son”. Tajani retraced the stages of the case, starting from the arrest and then continuing with the release on bail, in Miami, on 28 February. “For me, what matters is not the interpretation of whether the family is satisfied or not”, added Tajani, “but what Falcinelli’s mother said”.

“THE YOUNG PEOPLE WANTS TO STAY IN ITALY”

“Matteo Falcinelli could not have any criminal consequences thanks to a recognition of good conduct – added Tajani -, giving an account to the Senate of“a new action” by the American judiciary. The case of the young man originally from Spoleto, arrested on the night between 24 and 25 February in Miami, released on bail on the 28th and since then assisted by his mother Vlasta Studenicova, has been at the center of an interrogation. According to Tajani, with their decision the American magistrates intend to “give people with a criminal record a second chance”. The minister added: “The young man said he wants to stay in Florida”.
