The mountaineer Luca Bernini fell while he was skiing down the Swiss side of the Matterhorn: for the mountain world it is the third tragedy in a month

BOLOGNA – He was skiing down Mount Cervino but fell and crashed: this is how Luca Bernini, a 35-year-old mountaineer, originally from Piacenza, died. He was an expert mountaineer, instructor of the CAI of Piacenza. The accident happened yesterday morning around 8, while the 35-year-old was on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn together with a friend. The two had climbed to a height of 4,050 meters and then put on skis to descend along the east face. During the descent, according to what has been reconstructed for the moment by the Swiss Police,Bernini lost his balance and fell for a few hundred metres. The friend immediately alerted the emergency services, who arrived immediately. But for Luca there was nothing that could be done. The body was recovered by Air Zermatt. The Sion cantonal police are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics.

MOUNTAINIST FOR PASSION

Bernini was a great lover of climbing and in particular of via ferratas. His Instagram profile is full of photos and videos of ‘businesses’. some done alone, many with his girlfriend Alessia and others in a group with friends. He documented all the climbs complete with a map indicating the route and images highlighting the ‘crossing’ made. In his Instagram profile he presented himself like this: “Born in 1989, I have been alive since then, I will update when he passes away”.

FOR THE MOUNTAIN WORLD IT IS THE THIRD TRAGEDY IN A MONTH

Luca’s tragic death adds to two other terrible ‘excellent’ deaths, for the world of mountaineering and mountain sports, which have dramatically occurred in the last period, in the space of just over of a month. In Valle d’Aosta, in early May, Denis Trento, 41 years old, ski mountaineering champion, has died: he fell while hiking with skins on the mountain located in in front of the house where he lived with his family. Also in Valle d’Aosta, a few days ago, he died skier Jean Daniel Pession, who fell during a skiing accident. The 27-year-old, a member of the World Cup team, was hiking with his girlfriend, who also died.
