ROME – In 2004, after 6 seasons, Danilo Bertazzi left forever his role as Tonio Cartonio in Melevisione, the Rai 3 program that fascinated many children. Since then, many have wondered the reasons behind this farewell. Bertazzi himself explains it for the first time, responding to a fan on TikTok.
“Every time I see a meme with Tonio’s farewell to Melevisione I feel a little guilty – the actor began – also because you make me feel a little guilty by writing to me ‘ you were the first disappointment of my childhood, you shouldn’t have left us’ and these things here I will try to explain the real reason why I left the program, without prejudice to the fact that it was my decision to leave Fantabosco”.

First of all, the 64-year-old talks about the health problems that had forced him to stop: “I was grabbed by the hair and had my first heart surgery. This changes your perspective of life and it makes you think. I remember that I was in the hospital and I was worried about being replaced, of never coming back, I called the authors and the producer saying: ‘Don’t leave me at home’. However, being in the hospital they put in a new character , Nina Corteccia”.
This is how Bertazzi anticipated the return: “I came back, but I wasn’t well. The authors invented a strange disease of the Fantabosco, so for a while I had the opportunity to lying in bed with my pajamas and coveredYou should know that under my pajamas I had all the cannulas for the IV drips I did every day. My desire was to return for fear of be out of the program”.

“For us actors it is important to feel loved. With the first director of the program – he explained – I had a wonderful relationship, perhaps also because we were starting an adventure together that we didn’t know where it would take us. With the second director, however , I didn’t feel so loved and protected. So I always had the feeling that I was there and, therefore, he had to keep meThen I was losing the real me: at work, at home, out and about, everyone called me Tonio, in fact Tonio was taking over Danilo. So I tried to get my life back.”
