Colombo Hospital in Velletri, visit to the construction site of the Pediatrics and Gynecology departments

Marchitelli-La Regina (ASL Roma 6): "The opening of a birth center in Velletri represents a victory for the entire community"

ROME – This morning in Velletri there was a visit to the construction site of the Pediatrics and Gynaecology departments, housed on the third floor of the Colombo Hospital. The works are at an advanced stage and should be completed by the end of May.
The construction site is a prelude to the long-awaited opening of the Birth Center which, in fact, returns to the Colombo Hospital in Velletri has the right relevance in the area as a point of reference and excellence where multidisciplinarity and health services are also accompanied by restyling and new machinery for radiological and diagnostic tests.

THE NUMBERS

In fact, the data shows that there is an important demand that is currently not satisfied. In 2023, out of 3,663 births, 2,682 went outside the ASL Roma 6 area, equal to 73%: this therefore represents a great opportunity for all the municipalities in the Roma 6 area, where mothers they can give birth close to home and safely.
Present at the visit were the Extraordinary Commissioner of ASL Roma 6, Dr. Francesco Marchitelli, the Health Director Dr. Vincenzo Carlo La Regina and the mayor of Velletri, Ascanio Cascella< /strong>. Also on the construction site were Engineer Alessandra Candreva, Director of the Hospital Engineering Unit and Engineer Giuseppe Sajeva, Director of the Technical and Heritage Office of the Unit, together with the doctors and healthcare workers of the Lazio hospital.

The meeting was attended by the regional budget councilor, Giancarlo Righini, an expression of the Veliterno territory. “Together with President Rocca – he highlighted – we had made the commitment to give Velletri back its Birth Point and we are keeping that promise towards the citizens. The birth point is fits within a broader plan for the restructuring, modernization and efficiency of the departments, useful for restoring to the Colombo Hospital that centrality in the health service offered, which it had lost over the years, due to the progressive impoverishment “.

THE WORK

The works are underway on the third floor of the Velletri Hospital: there are 6 pediatrics beds, 2 pediatric observation beds, 4 neonatal beds and 20 obstetrics and gynaecology beds.< br>In the Pediatric department the construction site concerns the painting of the rooms and the corridor, the revision of all the fixtures, the taps in the bathrooms, the repair of the flooring in the deteriorated parts, demolition and reconstruction of the PVC flooring in the relaxation room. The works also include the installation of the uninterruptible power supply, the sanitization of the filters and the overhaul of the electrical system.


In the Gynecology department the same interventions are being completed which generally concern a careful and complete renovation. The landing on the third floor will also be sanitized and painted, the shoulder of the terrace exit door will be restored and, finally, work will be carried out to increase safety in the main car park, through the creation of a parapet at the end of the retaining wall using metal mesh.
