Codeway Expo starting tomorrow at the Rome Fair will focus on companies dealing with cooperation

The event, organized with the support of the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Lazio Region

ROME – Codeway Expo, the flagship event for international cooperation, organized by Fiera Roma and Internationalia, will open tomorrow at Fiera Roma. The event, organized with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and the Lazio Region, the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Aics) and the National Research Council (Cnr) and in collaboration with Unops (United Nations Office for Project Services), Ice/Ita (Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies) and Een (Enterprise Europe Network), will see the participation of key figures in the panorama of cooperation and sustainable development. Precisely these presences make Codewaxpo the platform for dialogue between the public and private sectors, through which companies will have the opportunity to explore and understand how to expand their role in contributing to global development objectives, interacting directly with the major players in the international and multilateral cooperation.

Before the start of the works, at 9.30, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, will visit the stands bringing his greetings to the operators intent on kicking off the event. “There is an important component of “architecture of Italian Cooperation, as designed by Law 125, which has not yet been fully exploited and which has a largely unexpressed potential, but which is nevertheless fundamental for an action of real impact” says the Aics director Marco of the appointment Riccardo Rusconi. This is the profit sector, which Codeway Expo aims to promote and mobilize and which the Agency is ready to accompany in the field of cooperation. And this is even more essential with the Mattei Plan, in which the world of Italian businesses, especially the medium ones but also the most innovative small ones, cannot fail to be involved”. The ribbon cutting will take place at 10.45am, which will mark the official opening of the fair and will kick off a series of meetings and presentations focused on procurement dynamics in the United Nations system and in Multilateral Development Banks.

They will be Anne-Claire Howard, Director of the Procurement Group of Unops (United Nations Office for Project Services) and Massimo Dal Checco, President of Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterranean to illustrate the United Nations’ sustainable procurement, taking stock of how to unleash the potential of the private sector in promoting development. Starting from 11am, it will be time for the “Procurement’s Pitch”, an exclusive forum created and supported by Ice/Ita and Unops (United Nations Office for Project Services), where the criteria and procedures for becoming suppliers of the procurement ecosystem will be presented United Nations. Participants will be Atsushi Isoyama (United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Unido), Gulgun Sahin (United Nations Development Programme, UNDP), Silvia Uneddu (United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef).

The morning will continue with speeches by representatives of prestigious international institutions such as Unops (United Nations Office for Project Services), UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), WFP (World Food Programme), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization ), IOM (International Organization for Migration). The morning will close with the 12.15pm session, moderated by Lorenzo Galanti, Director General of the Foreign Trade Agency (ICE), and with the participation of experts from the Multilateral Banks. CODEWAY, ‘UNCOMPLETED FLAG’ FLAG AT FIERA ROMA

Among the works exhibited at Codeway, the development cooperation fair focusing on opportunities and synergies with the private sector starting tomorrow, there is the “UNcompleted flag”, born from the idea of the artist Mario Arlati and the director of Unido Itpo Italy Diana Battaggia. The work is the result of the artistic laboratory created in July 2023 in collaboration with the Galleria Monza Arte Contemporanea (M.Ar.Co.) and the social enterprise Il carro. The project, shared by Unido Itpo Italy and the Contini Art Gallery of Venice-Cortina d’Ampezzo, allows us to explore and transmit the highest and noblest values of the industry in terms of sustainability, inclusiveness and cooperation.

“There are three fundamental aspects of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. From this perspective, a key theme for Unido’s mandate is the circular economy, through the implementation of thought and business models against waste and in favor of the recycling of products and materials” claims Dr. Battaggia. “Another fundamental theme in Unido’s work, and in common with the laboratory, is inclusiveness, involving young people and women to promote socio-economic integration in different realities of the world, especially where the most complex challenges arise”.

The children of Il Carro in fact had the opportunity to paint the United Nations flag together on a canvas made with recycled waste materials from the textile sector. The laboratory therefore offered young people from social enterprises not only an opportunity to meet, but also a tangible example, in a practical and engaging way, of the circular economy in action. “With this workshop I created a group of kids who play with the colors around the canvas, the material, and when you see the final result of these units, which then make up the work… the amazement, the possibility that you give to some people to making oneself useful is an irrepressible joy” comments maestro Arlati.
