China calls for the State of Palestine with ’67 borders and a peace conference
The president's proposal came during the ongoing Sino-Arab forum in Beijing
ROME – “China firmly supports the creation ofan independent and sovereign State of Palestine, with the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, its full membership in the United Nations and a broad conference of peace”. This was declared by the president of China, Xi Jinping, addressing the delegates of the Arab League and the heads of state and government of the Arab countries, for the tenth Sino-Arab conference, underway in Beijing. “There is no path to peace and stability in the Middle East without a comprehensive approach to the Palestinian cause,” Xi said, reiterating that “war cannot continue indefinitely, justice cannot be absent forever, and the two-way solution States cannot be arbitrarily compromised.” The president continued: “China supports Palestine’s membership in the United Nations and supports a broader, more authoritarian and more effective international peace conference.”
Addressing Arab leaders, including the presidents of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia – respectively Abdelfattah Al-Sisi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Kais Saied – the Chinese head of state wanted to start from the war in the Strip Gaza to then address all the other issues. Xi then announced the allocation of 64 million euros to respond to the humanitarian crisis in the Strip, and another three million euros to the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). In his bilateral meeting with Xi Jinping, his Emirati counterpart Mohamed bin Zayed once again called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The forum takes place while the Israeli Parliament is working on a bill to include UNRWA in the list of terrorist movements, while the offensive continues on Rafah, a densely populated city south of the Strip, which does not it spared the camps for displaced families. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 53 people were killed and 357 others injured in the last 24 hours.
