ROME – A 60-year-old woman from Lariano who suffered from atrial fibrillation, a cardiac pathology that no longer allowed her to live peacefully with constant daily ailments, was successfully operated on at Castelli Hospital with a new ablation procedure, a very innovative technique called electroporation or Pulse Field Ablation (PFA).
The lady is now well and was discharged in excellent condition. The operation was carried out by the director of the Complex Operational Unit (Uoc) of Cardiology, Doctor Natale di Belardino, and the team composed of Doctor Silvia Capone, the nurses Armando Molinari, and Alberto Mariani, and the Radiology Technician Sebastiano Sacco. In Lazio this technique used for the treatment of atrial fibrillation is performed at the Gemelli, the Tiber Island and the Castelli Hospital.
Great satisfaction was expressed by the Extraordinary Commissioner Francesco Marchitelli and by the Health Director Vincenzo Carlo La Regina who complimented Doctor Di Belardino and the team for the great result obtained which once again places the ASL Roma 6 as excellence in Laziobut also at a national level and above all it restores well-being to people by giving them the possibility of peacefully leading their daily lives.Atrial fibrillation is a cardiac pathology and is occurs when atrial activity is irregular and disorganized, and contractions follow one another at a higher rate than normal.
At the basis of this anomaly there is an electrical defect of the heart which leads the atria into a “short circuit”. If left untreated, atrial fibrillation can be very dangerous and cause a stroke. In the presence of symptoms of atrial fibrillation it is necessary to report them immediately to the doctor; in case of chest pain it is important to immediately contact the nearest emergency room.
