ROME – On May 5 last year, the Casa del Cinema reopened to the public after a series of renovations and with new management, entrusted to the Cinema per Rome Foundation strong>, the organization that has organized the Film Festival since its inception. To celebrate the anniversary, all films and meetings scheduled for next weekend (Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th) will have free admission. On the same days, Ferzan Özpetek and Matteo Garrone will meet the public to present their ‘films of the heart’, while Friday 10 May it will be Valeria Golino’s turn.
We will start on Saturday 4th in the company of Özpetek, who has chosen for the spectators ‘Black Narcissus’ by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (6pm), a sumptuous sensual and spiritual melody, among his favorite films by Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, and ‘The Sign of Venus’, Dino Risi’s third film, written together with Ennio Flaiano, Edoardo Anton and the acid pen of Franca Valeri (8pm). The filmmaker will meet spectators before the screening of Risi’s film.
The following day, the Casa del Cinema will host Matteo Garrone who has selected ‘L’Atalante’ by Jean Vigo (6pm), one of the greatest masterpieces of every era, and‘ 8½’ by Federico Fellini(8pm), a source of inspiration for the film industry and beyond. Garrone will meet the public on the occasion of this second screening. On the same day, the great Roman director will be celebrated with one of his most beloved works, ‘Pinocchio’, which will be screened as part of the ‘Forever Kidsì festival starting at 11am.
On Friday 10 May at 8pm, Valeria Golino will be at the Casa del Cinema to present ‘Todo modo’ by Elio Petri, a lucid and prophetic film that touches on many of the open questions of the second half of the Italian twentieth century. In the afternoon, at 4 pm, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ by Martin Scorsese will be held: adapting David Grann’s book ‘Killers of the Red Earth’, the American master mixes gangster movies and romance, irrepressible cynicism and tenderness in a quiet and melancholy epic starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.
